Trust/Fiduciary Tax Manager

San Pasqual Fiduciary Trust Company is the only California and Nevada-based trust company dedicated to providing trustee-only services. We do not sell investment products, which enables us to provide our clients with truly impartial fiduciary service. We devote our skills, expertise, and resources to trust administration and management. We are a small but growing firm located in Downtown Los Angeles, California and Reno, Nevada.

San Pasqual Fiduciary Trust Company administers trusts for high-net-worth families, currently administering over $2.2 billion in assets, while delegating the asset management and tax preparation duties to third parties.

We are seeking a driven professional to join our Finance and Operations Team for a full-time position.

Please note that this position has a HYBRID office/remote schedule. It is NOT 100% remote, and employees are expected to report to the Los Angeles office on a regular basis.

The Trust Tax Manager will be responsible for overseeing fiduciary tax return preparation by third-party CPAs, reviewing and signing tax returns once prepared, acting as a resource for Trust Professionals interfacing with third-party CPAs, and resolving trust tax issues as needed.
Tax information for trusts San Pasqual administers includes: 1099s and tax worksheets prepared by San Pasqual, 1099s and K-1s from investments with third-party asset managers, transaction summaries, property management reports, and any other reports specific to unique assets owned by trusts.

We use OneSource Tax application to produce tax reports.

Prior experience preparing fiduciary tax returns (Form 1041) is required.
In addition, a professional demeanor with strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality is required.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities
· Develop in-depth knowledge of the OneSource Tax Application. This will include:
o Understanding the interface between our trust administration software (FIS) and OneSource
o Running tax reports from OneSource
o Verifying accuracy of OneSource data
o Training others on how to run reports and otherwise maintain their accounts in OneSource, as well as assisting in troubleshooting issues
· Ensure that tax information is distributed to third-party CPAs by Trust Professionals in a timely manner.
· Interface with third-party CPAs to ensure they have a proper understanding of the particular trust(s) that they are preparing returns for.
· Evaluate third-party CPAs to ensure they are providing exceptional service.
· Evaluate CPA fees to ensure they are reasonable for the services provided.
· Work with Trust Professionals and third-party CPAs to ensure timely and accurate tax filings.
· Develop a working understanding of each trust sufficient in order to appropriately evaluate and verify fiduciary tax returns.
· Coordinate with Trust Professionals regarding preparation of estate tax returns for deceased clients, as well as review and signature of estate tax returns once prepared.
· Ensure that required and estimated tax payments are made in a timely manner.
· Ensure the timely distribution of all Beneficiary K-1s.
· Attend Trust Committee meetings (at least twice per month) to provide tax expertise when needed.
· Provide feedback on the performance of Trust Professionals as it relates to tax return coordination.
· Act as an internal resource for Trust Professionals regarding tax-related issues of trust administration.
· Provide training on tax issues and concepts to Trust Professionals.
· Assist in reviewing potential new business for tax-related issues.
· Act as the point of contact for any IRS examinations or audits.
· Coordinate responses to notices from taxing authorities (e.g. IRS, Franchise Tax Board) .
· Review transaction data to ensure that tax coding is accurate.
· Other duties as required.

Educational and Other Requirements
Prior experience preparing fiduciary tax returns (Form 1041) is required.
· Bachelor’s degree (Emphasis in Accounting, Finance, or Business, e preferable).
· Additional certification (i.e. MBA/CPA) strongly preferred.
· 5+ years of fiduciary tax experience with a focus on exemplary customer service for high net-worth clients ($1MM+ level clientele).
· Experience working with ultra-high-net-worth multi-generational $50MM+ families with complicated assets and sophisticated trust structures strongly preferred.
· Fully vaccinated against COVID19

Salaried exempt compensation commensurate with experience. Eligible for a raise and/or bonus during annual review based on job performance.
